08 Jul Bi-National Innovation Program
In collaboration with BASAbali (see Partners), I’ve been leading the creation of an interactive environmental program that engages high school students from Washington, DC, and three cities in Indonesia (Jakarta, Bali, Makassar). This program challenges high school students to collaborate to innovate creative projects and solutions to environmental issues within their communities, such as plastic pollution and water contamination, that will be implemented in their towns to improve the environment. Commencing in the fall of the 2022 – 2023 school year with hundreds of students, students will be cooperating in bi-national teams composed of three American students and three Indonesian students, with their respective teachers. Each group’s project will be implemented for three months following the creation of the project, allowing quantitative data of efficacy to be measured and consulted. Through this unique program, students learn to innovate solutions that promulgate sustainability within their communities and beyond, as well as gain an appreciation of multiculturalism and are encouraged to be stewards of the environment.
